Down to the wire

Sculptural, interior and exterior wired art pieces of furniture are opening our spaces even beyond the classic Bertoia chicken wire chair.
Lounge chair by Jean-Marie Massaud, constructed entirely by hand, each piece is unique and
"ad hoc" in the way that it's webbed shell is constructed. It is available in brass structure, lacquered in white, black, or orange epoxy, or entirely in gold or nickel finish.
The 'Osorom' bench is at the very forefront of design for public spaces, a brilliantly deft combination of art, lightness and function. Suitable for lending a dramatic presence to public areas both indoors and out. Created from multi-layered technopolymer composite and available in white.
Although this wiry look is not new to design, it's fiery colors and organic twists are two sought after elements. Customers have a collector's craving for the unique and appealing graphical forms. All in all a conversation piece for the 'hot' seat.

Before & after: from vision to reality

How amazing is it to be able to convey to clients a vision, an idea, a perfect image to scale of what their space will look like. As if I was able to push the fast forward button on my remote and visualize the space wit the custom furniture. A money-saving tool that allows for colors to be interchanged with the click of a (few..) button. Yet, what better investment for both designer and client alike to utilize the time to see all the details in a color rendering.

This office condo-loft with it's high ceiling, exposed slabs and ductwork, allowed for a great mix of natural wood tones, in this case maple, with inserts of perforated metal, which maintain the industrial feel of the loft. The 3/4" thick glass top offers the perfect balance between wood and metal, while it's transparency makes for an illusion of a grander space.

Child's Play at the Wolfsonian

Join The Wolfsonian-Florida International University as it presents CHILD’S PLAY: Propaganda Puzzles, War Games, and Children’s Books on display in the Green Library at the Florida International University Park Campus through January 22, 2008. The exhibition organized by The Wolfsonian's chief librarian Francis Luca features children's propaganda books, magazines, board games, puppets, and puzzles created as a means to enlist even the youngest members of a nation in the broader cause of the war effort. A reception and talk to celebrate the opening of the exhibition will be held in the Green Library on Thursday, January 17 at 3pm.

During the early twentieth century, both democratic and totalitarian countries introduced children to political and war-related messages through books, magazines, and games that transformed war into “child's play.” In some books, children are depicted as actual combatants; in others, young readers are encouraged to actively support the war through participation in scrap drives or by saving coins to buy victory stamps. Games also aimed at instilling patriotism, glorifying national heroes, and training future combatants in the strategies and art of war.
